Lẩu cù lao
This is simply a game of patterns, in which the player develops four tiles from geometric shapes in the first week. After receiving feedback from our mentor, anh Nhật Minh, we then adjust the four tiles if needed and repeat them to create patterns.
For the second week's submission, we were asked to mix tiles and patterns to create a texture.

Tip:
If you plan to try this workshop, I recommend using Figma as I did when making patterns. This way, you can use your tile as a component and easily change them in bulk.

Tiles
These were my submission. I created them all using rectangles and circles/ellipses. Since tiles are units that will be repeated many times, they should be simple and easily repeatable in multiple cases. That was why at this early stage, I also drafted some patterns to test which tiles had potential for pattern making.
1st week’s submission
Anh Minh suggested that I change the second tile because it was too centripetal and narrow, lacking continuity when creating patterns. For the fourth tile, I could try changing the rectangular shapes to elliptical ones for a better gradation effect.Below was my adjustment on the tiles.

Tiles ︎︎︎ Patterns
When I was making patterns, I thought of using a grid. The tiles could be placed irregularly, but the pattern should be based on a grid, in this case, a square grid. This ensured consistency between different patterns and the macro structure of the final design (a tip from Anh Minh).Tile 1

Now you know why the project was named “Lẩu cù lao” (cù lao hot pot). I chose this image as the base and then placed the tiles and patterns on top of it. It turned out better than I expected, especially the shrimps and those steaming smoke. Hope you see all the ingredients in the hotpot!
